UMS'nJIP and the art song (Lied).
Imagine
the poetic but sometimes ofdfashioned 19th
century setup freshly redesigned
with voice, recorders and electronics!
Since 2007, UMS'nJIP have performed
over 300 commissioned works
and 1400 concerts in 40 countries,
playing individual works
- and this is almost unique for new music worldwide -
more than 100 times. Parallel to
their work as performers, they also pursue
a career as composers, and as such have won
over 30 international awards.
One of their focus is the discussion
of classical genres
- in this case, the art song of the Romantic period,
which originated in the late 18th century
and flourished until the middle of the 20th century.
The specific set of the duo (voice, recorders and
electronics)
and their personal affinity to poetry and literature
offer an attractive terrain for a very special approach
to a genre which knew how to achieve
a symbiosis of text and music like hardly any other.
